Just before Christmas the editor at Cheshire Life magazine called me with a slightly unusual request (good job she called back when I accidentally hung up on her). Would I photograph a pile of Love Heart sweets for the cover of the February edition of Cheshire Life and could I do it first day back to work after New Year.
Over the Christmas period I bulk bought Love Hearts (how many would I need and what messages would I be picking out??).
It was quite a simple brief in some respects, nothing but Love Heart sweets on a slightly textured background. As with all seemingly simple tasks it still took as long to style as a more complex food set up. The sweets needed to be in exactly the right place to allow for the copy and a good arrangement of colours, messages and blank hearts. Each sweet was placed with loving care!
With great communication between the editor, design team and myself we nailed it well in advance of the print deadline.
It’s been amazing seeing it in shops across the county. But best of all was this quote from the editor:
The Love Hearts cover was a complete departure from the usual Cheshire Life front page but it has had the best reaction of any I have worked on in my three years editing the magazine. It was great to work with Jane to produce this introduction to the February issue that has provoked so much positive reaction. And love.
